Lakeside is centrally located on the Oregon coast in northern Coos County, 12 miles north of North Bend and just off Highway 101. It's considered the gateway to the Tenmile Lakes region, which encompasses 187 miles of shoreline and over 2700 acres for year-round fishing - and the fishing is awesome. The two lakes at Lakeside offer angling for bluegill, bullhead, largemouth bass, rainbow trout, steelhead and cutthroat. Boats can be rented at Tenmile Lakes, and it is one of the best ways to see the lake. Other lake activities include hiking, biking, picnicking and swimming. Lakeside is just a short drive to the Oregon Dunes National Recreational Area, and crabbing, clamming, exploring tidepools and kite flying on the beach. Other nearby points of interest include the Umpqua River Lighthouse, Smith River Falls, Deans Creek Elk Preserve, the Pacific Ocean and beaches, and many seaside towns with quaint shops and restaurants. Coos County offers more than 30 parks with boat ramps, campgrounds, hiking trails and picnic areas for year-round use. It's a geologically diverse area with many sightseeing and recreational opportunities for the whole family.

Lakeside Weather & Climate

The South Central Coast of Oregon enjoys a mild climate with only rare occurrences of severe weather such as thunderstorms, tornadoes or hailstorms. The most important geographic feature that affects the climate is the Pacific Ocean, which makes up the western border of the state. Most of the storm systems moving across Oregon have been greatly modified by traveling over the ocean. As a result, winter minimum and summer maximum temperatures on the Oregon coast are also moderate. The coastal region does, however, receive an abundant amount of rainfall much of the year, resulting in occasional flooding along coastal streams. This also accounts for the rich pastures and farmland along the Oregon coast. The average annual snowfall in the region is only one to three inches, and many years there is no measurable amount.
