Crescent-Lake
is a large natural body of water located on the eastern slopes of the Cascade Range, about 70 miles southwest of Bend, Oregon. Nearby is Crescent Dam (located at the outlet of Crescent Lake,) which is part of the Crescent Lake Project. This mirror-like 4,000-acre lake provides excellent fishing, especially for kokanee salmon, rainbow trout, brown trout, and mountain whitefish. The Oregon fishing season for Crescent Lake runs late April through October. Other recreational activities available on Crescent Lake include boating, camping, jet skiing, picnicking and swimming. There are also many wintertime activities in the area, including snowmobiling on groomed trails. The Willamette Pass Ski Area is less than ten minutes away. Local amenities in the Crescent Lake area include hotels and motels, grocery stores and other places to purchase supplies. The Crescent Lake Loop is a scenic drive that takes you past Crescent Lake. The scenic Loop originates in Eugene on Highway 58 to Oakridge, past Hills Creek Reservoir and over Emigrant Pass to Summit and Crescent Lakes, and back to Eugene. Side trips on the Crescent Lake Loop include Timpanogas Lake, Indigo Lake and Waldo Lake. This route follows the approximate route of the Oregon Central Military Wagon Road that was eventually replaced by the Willamette Pass Highway 58.

Crescent Lake Weather & Climate

Mountains that protect the valley from the most severe aspects of weather encircle northeastern Oregon, near Wallowa Lake and the Eagle Cap Wilderness Area. The mountains also prevent moisture from reaching the valley, so it has a fairly dry climate. Most of the precipitation in the area occurs in fall and winter, and varies from just over seven inches in the valley up to 60 inches in the mountains. Summers are warm and pleasant with low humidity. Thunderstorms are possible in spring and summer. Heavy snowfall in the high mountains produces snow packs that remain all year long on the higher peaks. Light snow can be expected in the valley regions from late November to early April. January is usually the coldest month and July is the hottest.

The closest airports in the area are the Joseph State airport (4S3) located about 11 miles north of Crescent Lake in Joseph, Oregon, the La Grande Union County airport (LGD) located approximately 35 miles west of Crescent Lake in La Grande, Oregon, the Baker City Municipal airport (BKE) located roughly 35 miles southwest of Crescent Lake in Baker City, Oregon, and finally the Mc Call Municipal airport (MYL) located around 61 miles southeast of Crescent Lake in Mccall, Idaho.
