Rockaway-Beach
is located on Oregon's north coast, halfway between the towns of Tillamook and Cannon Beach. With seven miles of walkable beach and the picturesque "twin rocks" just offshore, Rockaway Beach is one of Oregon's undiscovered gems. Rockaway Beach is the place to stay if you want to avoid the tourist crowds and pressures of city life. The beaches are perfect for a walk or jog, lazy days of sunning and beachcombing and building sandcastles or flying a kite. Oswald West State Park is just a short drive from Rockaway Beach, and has beautiful trails for hiking and biking. Fishing is available on the Nehalem River, just north of Rockaway Beach. And the inland lakes and ponds in the area are great for "birding." There are festivals and events all year long in Rockaway Beach, such as their annual kite festival in May, and an arts and crafts festival in August. The 4th of July is celebrated with fireworks on the beach and an annual Autumn Festival is held in late September. Less than two hours from Portland, Rockaway Beach is a small, friendly town with gift shops, great restaurants and over 500 motels, hotels, rental homes and cabins. And, most of these have ocean views! It's a favorite destination for both family vacations, or a weekend getaway for two.

Rockaway Beach Weather & Climate

The North Coast Region of Oregon has a climate with strong marine influences. Summers are generally cool and winters are moderate. Westerly winds are predominant from the northwest during the summer and from the southwest in the winter. These winds from the ocean bring heavy rainfall in winter and fog in the summer. The Oregon Pacific coastal zone is characterized by wet winters, relatively dry summers and mild temperatures all year. Along the lower elevations on the immediate coast, annual precipitation is between 65 to 90 inches, but on higher elevations on the west slopes, it can be up to 200 inches. Several days of abundant rainfall can cause floods. Snowfall on the coast is minimal. Extreme high or low temperatures are rare.
