Yamhill is a small town of approximately 800 residents, located in Oregons famous Yamhill Valley, which is known for its award winning wineries. Situated in the northwest portion of the state, Yamhills climate is perfect for growing the grapes that are reason for the success of local vintners. Activities in the area include wine tasting and touring the local wineries, bike riding, hiking, horseback riding, antique shopping, hot air balloon rides and more. Beulah Park in Yamhill offers picnicking, a skateboard area, play area and horseshoes. Menefee Park is located 8 miles northwest of Yamhill and is a peaceful place for a picnic within a Western Red Cedar Grove along Turner Creek. Yamhill is also located near several state parks, including Champoeg State Park, which is situated on the bank of the scenic Willamette River and features a combination of history, nature and recreation. Picnicking, camping, fishing and canoeing are all available at Champoeg. Small town family festivals are also a way of life in Yamhill County. Almost every weekend of summer offers a local festival in the area, with carnival rides, parades, arts and crafts and lots of good food. Old fashioned 4th of July celebrations often begin with a pancake breakfast and include entertainment and games and a fantastic fireworks show.

Yamhill Weather & Climate

The Northwest Region of Oregon enjoys a mild climate year round, with much less rain than the stereotypical cities of the rainy Pacific Northwest. On average, this region of the state receives less rainfall than that of Atlanta, Houston, Indianapolis or Seattle. That is not to say it never rains here. Northwest Oregon receives an average of 36.3 inches per year, mostly in the winter and early spring. The Pacific Ocean is an influencing factor on the climate, which helps moderate temperatures year round. Rarely is there severe weather such as tornadoes or flooding. Hailstorms usually occur each year, but are generally light and cover small areas. The northwest coastal area receives the least amount of sunshine in the state. The climate is perfect for the many vineyards found in the region.
