Oceanside
is a small coastal village in Tillamook County, approximately 45 miles from Cannon Beach. It lies on the "Three Capes Scenic Loop," which is named for Cape Meares, Cape Lookout and Cape Kiwanda. The scenic loop begins in the town of Tillamook, then reaches Cape Meares and heads south past Oceanside and the community of Netarts. It continues to Cape Lookout, and further south, the highway passes Cape Kiwanda before rejoining Highway 101 at Pacific City. The three capes are each located within a state park, which features campgrounds, hiking and biking trails. Standing guard 217 feet above sea level is historic Cape Meares Lighthouse. There are hiking trails from the parking lot to the lighthouse and scenic lookout points that overlook inlets inhabited by sea lions and nesting birds. Seventeen miles offshore from Oceanside is the Three Arch Rocks National Wildlife Refuge, the oldest refuge in the United States. It consists of 17 acres of rock islands that provide nesting for large numbers of birds and wildlife. The town of Oceanside has one of the most picturesque settings along the Oregon Coast, and its uncrowded beaches are great for beachcombing and hunting agates, exploring tidepools, kite flying, sea kayaking and parasailing. There are several outstanding restaurants in town, from a friendly "Cheers" type tavern to one of the finest oceanside restaurants found along the coast. And lodging in Oceanside varies from family style hotels to cozy oceanside retreats.

The North Coast Region of Oregon has a climate with strong marine influences. Summers are generally cool and winters are moderate. Westerly winds are predominant from the northwest during the summer and from the southwest in the winter. These winds from the ocean bring heavy rainfall in winter and fog in the summer. The Oregon Pacific coastal zone is characterized by wet winters, relatively dry summers and mild temperatures all year. Along the lower elevations on the immediate coast, annual precipitation is between 65 to 90 inches, but on higher elevations on the west slopes, it can be up to 200 inches. Several days of abundant rainfall can cause floods. Snowfall on the coast is minimal. Extreme high or low temperatures are rare.
